This year, I became better at organization, especially during the storybook and the game characters projects. Organization is a really good skill to have at DRSS, because when you have multiple projects to do at once you need to know where everything is when you need it. My grades have been improving since I learned how to keep everything organized. Now I will be even better next year since I became more organized. Here are my favorite projects as a 7th grade student at the Dayton Regional STEM School. Click on the images to see more about the project.

7th Grade

RAHA

Science

RAHA is Reading, Analyzing, Highlighting, and Annotating. In science we use RAHA to help us on our homework to better comprehend what we read. When using RAHA first you have to be assigned a homework/ reading. Then we take it home and read it one, maybe two or more times. Next we highlight important things, and lastly we look at what we highlighted and put it into our own words on some blank area close to that highlighted spot.

Storybook
STEM Foundations & Language Arts

During this project we had to create a children's story book about effective communication that could not include people as characters, so I think that I grew in creativity because we really had to think about how to be abstract with our work but still make it make sense to third- fifth graders.

Economics of Castle Design
World History

In World History we were learning about life in the middle ages. We had to create a castle using a budget with a small group of other students. We had to purchase parts for the castle from a list. The castle had to show all of the lines of defense in the medieval times. We had to learn about the castles and multiple types of defense tactics.

Nutrition and Healthy Meal Planning
Wellness/ Fitness

During this project we were required to make a poster and a chart about how to eat healthy at every meal. Which means eating correct portions and getting the right amounts of each food group. Doing that in a healthy way also means eating: Fruit- 1.5 cups and most of that should be FRESH fruits. Vegetables- 2 cups for girls, 2 ½ for boys and you should eat a variety of colors.Grains- 5 ounces for girls, 6 ounces for boys and make ½ of grains WHOLE grains. Protein- 5 ounces and make your protein LEAN protein. Dairy- 3 cups and you should choose low-fat and fat free.

Scaling with Game Characters
Math

During this project we had to a create paper character, but we also had to enlarge and reduce its size, but more specifically:

  1. We had to make an original game character using a coordinate grid.

  2. Create a table with the coordinates.

  3. Make a reduced version of the original character.

  4. Make an enlarged version of the original character. Add the newly found coordinates to the table.
