How I Grew in 9th Grade

This year, I was able to grow in my self-confidence with my answers to questions. I really showed this in Algebra.  I told myself that I was incapable of doing a problem, but by doing that, I began to believe that I really couldn’t do any of it. When I put my mind to it, and just attempted the problems, I may have gotten some of the answers wrong, but it still felt better than turning in a blank piece of paper.

We did a project where we had to recreate a famous piece of art, on a website called Desmos. We had to redraw the work of art on graph paper, then write the equations for all of the lines and put them in the application. I didn’t do too great with the final product. A bunch of my lines were totally off from where they were supposed to be, and it looked like a mess. The first time that I submitted it, I didn’t finish it to the best of my ability, I eventually just gave up and submitted it as is. When I submitted the project, I was at home, because I had procrastinated to finish it, and there were a ton of equations that looked awful and I couldn’t get to look how they were supposed to, but because I was at home, I couldn’t get the teachers help.

My teacher gave the class a chance for a revision, and I took it! The first time, I made a big mistake of not asking questions when I had the chance. I stayed after school a few times, and asked questions, because after all, teachers are there to help you when you’re struggling. Now, I stay after school for a few minutes if I need to when we are learning about something that I didn’t quite understand.

Asking questions is better that forfeiting a grade that could potentially be good.

These are all of my documents from the first time that I turned in the project, and the first image is the actual recreated image. Some of the artifacts also include the revised version of that specific document.

For this draft, I asked more questions so that I was able to get it to look as realistic as possible. We were only allowed to use 40 equations without loosing prints on the project, so I was unable to put in the colors from the real piece.
